RUNNING WORKSHOPS FROM ELITE RUNNERS:

1Iain

Dr. Iain Hunter, winner of the 2009 St. George Marathon

The URC invites you to attend our Running Seminars by an elite runner at a local running store!  It costs $5 for club members who pre-register, or $10 day of.  For non-club members it costs $10 pre-registered, $15 day of.  You will get advice from the experts at the running store!  You will be given advice on how to improve your times and how to train properly for long distance events ranging from middle distance to Marathons.

Our next speaker will be Olympic Steeple chaser Lindsey Anderson who was one of the top 3 runners selected to run in the 2008 Olympics is coming to Utah County to give some coaching and advice at a seminar soon. We will let you know the location and date once we see what kind of interest we have and where and when you would prefer to have it. It will cost her a lot to drive down from Ogden in time and gas, and we will need to pay her decently since she will be giving us expert advice to make it worth her time. Olympians are very busy people with their rigorous training schedules and all the other things that come with representing the country!

Please let me know what cities you would be willing to drive to (how far you would drive) and what days of the week and times you would be able to come. Also, we will ask for a minimum donation of $10 per person to attend the seminar, which is a killer deal, since coaching of this caliber would usually be about $60 per hour.

We will allow you to ask her questions so be prepared with questions that you want advice on. She has trained and competed with some of the best runners in the world and she currently coaches at Weber State College, to my knowledge, so she is well qualified to let you know how to get to the next level in running and inspire and motivate you!

Elite runner Dr. Iain Hunter, winner of last year’s St. George Marathon, is one of our speakers on some nights.  He is an exercise biomechanics professor at BYU and trains with the BYU Track team, which he is a former member of.  He works closely with his coach, who also coaches the BYU Men’s Track and Cross Country teams, Ed Eyestone, who is an Olympic Marathoner and 3 time national champion.  Iain is also paid by USATF to conduct running studies at world-class running events, such as the Olympics, as well as major US races. He also conducts running experiments in the lab at BYU where they do tests on BYU Runners as well as other runners in Utah. He is not only an expert on bio-mechanics, but also many other aspects of running, which will help runners of all ability levels from beginners to elites. He is happy to answer any of your questions, even basic ones, so please don’t feel intimidated because you are a beginner.

Kassi Anderson, National Steeple Chase Record Setter and Champion who runs professionally for Nike, has also been a speaker.

When we meet in Highland at Get Fit, anyone interested in carpooling from south of the store can meet at Sonic Drive In, 147 N West State Rd, American Fork to carpool there together. Those of you who don’t have cars can take the bus to the UTA stop there.  We would appreciate any of you who would stop by on your way there to see if anyone there needs a ride.

Get Fit Athletic Wear is at 11055 N Alpine Hwy Bldg 200 in Highland.   Get Fit is on the north west side of the intersection of Highland Highway and Alpine Hwy, next to the Blue Lemon Restaurant and Newport Sports Club.  You can get on Alpine Hwy from the 5th East exit in American Fork and then turning west on State St, then north on 100 E, which is Alpine Hwy.

Register at www.RunnerCard.com when the events are announced.  For more details see www.UtahRunningClub.com/Training.

We hope to see you there!

RUNNERS CORNERRunner’s Corner and Get Fit Athletic Wear are sponsoring the Utah Running Club! We want to offer a reward for attending running club practice. Helping you get proper running shoes will help you to stay injury-free and be able to continue training with us, so we want to do what we can to help you stick with us! You will get 50 cents worth of credit at Get Fit or Runner’s Corner at awards seminar for each run you attended (2 per day possible), and an additional 50 cents if you kept up with Mary Ann on at least one minute on speed days.  If you keep up or go faster than the planned speed workout during the entire workout, you get $2.00 of credit.  If the speed workout lapses into the second workout time, and you keep up on the pace, you will get an additional $2.00 credit, totaling $4 credit that day! If you attend all practices 5 days a week, without keeping up on speed workouts, this would be about $240/year, which should buy you 3-4 pairs of shoes each Picture 70year.  It would be even more if you do all the speed workouts.  Of course, you don’t have to buy running shoes with your credit. You can buy whatever you want at the store to help your running! Gift certificates will given out at the seminars if and when you earn at least $10.  Credit rolls over to the next month unless you miss an entire month.  The race entries are for one of various races around Utah and surrounding states. If you win, you can choose which race you want to attend from a list of about 15 races.
